Day One of Unemployment

So today was the first day of being unemployed, I went to US Dept of Labor site to file my unemployment claim on line,

The process is quite simple, you need to log on using your SSN and create a pin #
The site was designed to be fairly user friendly, I was asked a series of questions.
Once you completed them, it will ask you to confirm your claim for that week. Then you are done. There is a waiting period which is defined on the website.

If you get laid off don’t wait until your severance has expired, you should file your claim right away, the first day you are unemployed, you can choose to have your check directly deposited to your account, huge savings of time, you should consider having federal taxes taken out, otherwise at the end of the year you will have to pay the taxes on the funds. So make this decision carefully, pay now or pay later.

I had a very productive day, I sent out over 30 resumes to various different sites and positions, most within my current field of Project Management. I have decided to focus on NYC as my best chance of finding new employment, Westchester County next etc. Today I focused on my job search alerts and sites I found in the past to have had success, like indeed. I have spent the entire day glued here to my laptop, searching the web.

The key is not to get distracted, stay focused. Treat it like it is a job, because it is. It is your job to find a new job unless you are happy collecting unemployment . I am not.

Well Thats it for now. I will update again tomorrow.
